Week seven of term two in Ngaio classroom.

Our week began with show and tell and a visit from Birchwood Kindy, we love sharing with them!

Then it was on to gymnastics in the hall, this week we are learning about correct landings, keeping our feet together and landing on the balls of our feet and rolling back onto our heels.

Bunny hops over the bench are a new skill for many of us.

Miecke sensibly opted for the half way hop, getting both her feet onto the bench before jumping off the opposite side.

Kayla is progressing well with her Early Words programme with me every morning at 0830 and has learned to read and write six new words already for herself.

We were so fortunate to have visitors from Year 6 come and show us their Matariki celebration shows.

Pene is a natural teacher and the children loved the star mobile.

Nick had made a really in-depth study of Matariki to share with us.

On Monday afternoon we were so fortunate to have been asked to join Elim Kids for a show by Levity Beat an amazingly talented musician who makes his own instruments - thank you to all parents who were able to come with us and give lifts to my class!

Listening and enjoying the show.

Levity needed a long drink of water after all that singing!

On Monday afternoons we take turns to either go to Rm 10 or for those students to come to us to share maths games.

Ten green bottles...

Tahlia had her first school visit this week.

New understandings, tens frame patterns - we need to fill one side of the pattern first to show 5.

Rate can show five with blocks, our challenge was how many different shapes can we make with 5?

Kaden made a different '5'.

Jayden made two more '5' constructions.

Our letter this week is m so we worked well to make 'm' placements of marvellous meals - on Friday we can take these home to put on the dinner table and put our utensils and plate on top!

Mixed media is our art focus this term so we painted sunsets ...(after looking at lots on the internet and discovering the colours in a sunset)

On top of our sunsets we cut out mountain ranges - here they are drying in the lovely sunshine.

Wow, awesom art, tamariki!

One of the maths groups were working on different ways to distribute '5' with insects and 'fields', joined up by a bridge.

Making play dough letters as part of our reading rotation is great fun.

Matariki poems have come home this week - how awesome, our letter this week is 'm'.

Gosh, this morning was so frosty it provided a superb opportunity for language, science and writing focus.

Feeling the frost - and hearing it crunch under our little feet!

Discovering frozen leaves!

Exploring why one part of the field is green and one is white - why is that? We had amazing questions and answers relating to shade, sun, cold, ice, frost, white, green, water, freezing, melting ... the list was a long one!

Rafe can identify numbers to 10 and count accurately too.

Time for i-pad learning this afternoon (Friday)

Buddy reading with Rm7.

Kayla has finished Level 1 of Core 5, go Kayla!

Well done with homework last week, my new children!

Great work, Maddie!

Sure work, Miela!

On Friday afternoon we get time to play together - today we made the most of the sun and had a ball on the Junior Playground .

Kobie made it to the top!

Naleah is up high too!

NEXT WEEK
Next Friday we will be the writers spot - not this week, sorry for the mistake on the blog!
Library will be ON next week, sorry we were so busy making our moon cars (I don't think I even put photos of those on our blog this week, did i?) we missed it!

Have a lovely weekend and lets hope the sun shines - if it is frosty, go out and find more describing words for the frost please!
