Week three in Ngaio, Feb15th - 19th 2016

We painted huge pictures of ourselves - do come and see them hanging in our room.We made up a story each to go with our amazing paintings.

Taking advantage of the sun and learning to write our letter of the week - 'a'.

We love singing our A,B.C's and pointing to each letter as we go.

"Wow, Mrs Savill, come and see our tower it is taller than us, nearly as tall as you! It may fall over..."

The i-pads in our room are loaded with apps the children love to use, here you can see Lillybellex learning her letter sounds and making words.

Ella loves the word machine and is helping Kayla read.

Mrs Shepard reading to us, as we joined together for our Discovery Time - the new display is up in the foyer in our block. If you haven't yet come to see it, please do, we are taking turns beautifully and this is our focus, making a difference to how we work together.

Choosing percussion in music this week - what awesome shakers we have!

This is Mrs Hatton who was relieving on Thursday morning.

We have been learning about probability using the terms 'will' 'won't' and 'might'.

Using the Little Red Riding Hood story we decided what we will see in a forest, might see and won't see...

Swimming on Thursday - we were so lucky it didn't rain!!

Vince learned that Te Pakira is only a little taller than him and if she can stand up in the pool then so can he and he didn't need to be afraid.

These are our helping Mums, so great you can come and assist us each week, ladies! Thank you!

James has filled his first sticker chart!

Although Alex has a box on his head, the learning from this play before school was incredible.

Problem Solving Maths today - we were making houses for teddies and here Kayla was making one from cushions - that was tricky!

Clinton made a teddy bed...

Zane made a teddy jungle ding - dong!

Ella has completed her first writing goal sheet. Great work Ella!!

Homework certificates - al these children did alphabet homework last week, cutting out things beginning with our letter of the week and pasting them into their books. Ella and Emma.

Alex and Lilly belle...

Vince and James...

Ewan made these gorgeous glasses to wear in Discovery Time.

The boys loved making various contraptions in Rm3.

This was a fun activity - balance is our focus and we were trying to balance on the wood whilst holding a ruler, balancing as many jelly beans as we wanted to without dropping them!

Star of the week, week 2, 2016.

Ella is our star this week. She is amazing, she began school  near the end of term 4 last year and has taken off like a rocket with her learning. She explains herself well, is reading clearly and only needs sight words for one night and then knows them! Wow! Ella is using her understanding of letter sounds in her writing too, Ka Pai.

Our second week at school, Feb 2016.

Show and Tell on Tuesday this week as Monday was Waiting Day. Emma was on her last school visit.
I hope you enjoy this snapshot of our week - we have worked and played together really well and are getting to know each other in Ngaio.
Learning to write our letters outside - gross motor skills are so important. Her we are learning how to form an S correctly - 'open mouth, big belly' is what we say when we write S.

From gross motor writing to fine motor skills using a whiteboard pen. Often we put our work up in the window for you to enjoy too.

Lillybelle made a model from play-dough of her Mum playing the drums.

We are learning how to present informations as part of our 'statistics', sorting and grouping. This  big chart shows which children like apples to eat and those who do not.

Mrs Shepard is super, she began teaching Kapa Haka to us all this week.
We went to visit our old friends at the Kindy (and made some new ones too) on Wednesday morning as part of our transition programme. I have made a book of photos if you would like to come into our purple corner and read it with your child.
Ash taught Zane how to hold scissors safely before they went and cut some lavender.

Ella on the bars.

Lillybellex can hang amazingly well!

Ewan loving the swings.

Water play.

Lining up to return to class.
We are also having 'Discovery Time' once a week and this week our Key Competency was learning to share and to take turns, relating to others.
We took turns to paint today, waiting for the colours we needed to use and waiting for a turn as only four children could paint at a time at our bubble table today.

Sharing at the end of the session was great.

We are also learning to balance in different ways...Bella is doing really well!

Wow, look at Alex!

Our poem was 'A shady hat' and we presented it at assembly on Friday .

Lillybelle brought a vertebrae to show - she calls it her smily face bone!

Zane brought tree sap his Dad drilled from the tree in their garden.

James buddy reading with Riley in Room 7.

Children are fascinating, as soon as we put our our hoops for sorting groups they invented jumping and hopping games too.

Sorting out the equipment as a class.

Finding ways to pair the sorting groups.

Follow up activity in our workbooks.

Swimming!!!

Vince put all the dinosaurs of the same type together and counted them accurately.

Ewan made a rainbow.

Welcome, Emma!! At last you are five, you love being with us already.

Thank you to those parents who helped with swimming on Thursday this week - we have two more weeks to go to the pool, please continue to support us if you can!
Have a great weekend.
