Star of the week, week four.

Videl is our star of the week to reflect her amazing rate of learning progress and super respect to others. Video is always happy to share her understanding in a gentle way, encouraging her peers to do their best also. She is a great role model and a real treat to teach, always listening and keen to apply herself. Keep up the super attitude, Videl.

Week four 2015, Room One.

Welcome to the Room One Blog, a photo record of some of our learning this week - sorry no photos of swimming as I was in the pool with the children supervising use of the slide which went so well we were really impressed with our Room One and Room Three children, their ability to respect and wait for each other and turn taking.
Enjoy looking at these pictures and thanks for visiting the Blog.
Annelise at sharing time telling us her news.

Leah was very excited to show us her little ponies.

Holly completing a number puzzle to 10, sensibly checking the illustration on the box to ensure she had ordered her numerals correctly.

Singing c,k,c,k,c with the castanets...

....taking turns :)
Our letter this week is 't' therefore our poem is "The Toaster" and this is how it goes:
A silver scaled dragon,
With jaws flaming red,
Waits at my elbow
And toasts my bread!
I hand him fat slices
And then one by one,
He hands them back
When they are done..... so I brought a dragon into class and covered him with a tea towel, telling the poem to my children to find out if they could decipher what was under the towel. We had some great language from this including "Why on earth would we have a toaster at school?".... Each child was then treated to freshly buttered toast (so we managed to do some 'fractions' as well, cutting each slice into quarters to feed as many children as possible at one time whilst we fund describing words (adjectives) for our toast, ready for our writing time..

Some of the boys playing together.

Wow Holly and Videl love puzzles - Holly made this alphabet puzzle up too!

Kaden has filled his first sticker chart.Ka Pai Kaden!

Bella came on her first school visit, she fitted in so well.

Joseph is delighted to have filled his first chart too.

We are learning all about ordering numbers and counting forwards and backwards. Much of this is done by singing and here you can see us singing and acting out 'One man went to mow..'

Snack time.
Our focus in art is drawing portraits and this week we used our pencil skills to draw our own faces and did our best to add the facial features in the right place. The finished pieces are already on display in our classroom, do come and see them, the children did SO well!

i-pad learning.

Lexington using the i-pad to take photos - he was intrigued that he could also rotate the camera to do 'selfies'.

Number puzzles...

Wow!

Star of the week, week three.

Tyler is our star of the week. He always gives his all in class, he does his best, arrives early and keen to learn, helps others and is a good friend. Well done Tyler, you have a superb attitude to school and I love having you in Room One. Keep up the great role modelling.

Week three already!

Tyler has completed his first sticker chart - great effort, Tyler now you can use this at home as a bookmark and always remember our class when you are older!

Holly brought her 'Frozen' card to show and tell - it plays a tune and is gorgeous!

Judah sharing his news with the talking stick in our circle time.

Busy at work in maths, sorting and grouping animals.

I-pad learning on Monday afternoon, pocket phonics, learning letter formation.

We went to visit Birchwood Kindy this week and had great fun with our friends there. If you would like to see our class book, come to the purple corner, everyone is in it!

Holly enjoyed making her name in sand.

Annelise and her friend Oliver using the tools on the bench.

Lockie was on a school visit and loved showing us around Kindy.

Addison playing 'kitchens' she was adding sugar to a cup of tea.

Collaborative learning sharing ideas about shapes and deciding how best to show our discoveries (we decided on a tally chart)

We are learning about respect and have decided it means 'showing we care' for each other, ourselves and our place. To care for our place (environment) we went on a litter search and filled a bag with all sorts of rubbish from beside the fence around the back of our lovely school.

Here is our bag full of litter.

This is the tally chart we made for the shapes in the big discovery book shown above.

Our respect brainstorm.

In N.Z.S.L. we are playing the mirror game in addition to our favourite 'silent ball'. In this game pairs copy each others expression, no talking or giggling allowed! Honest! :)

Holly and Bodie signing to each other "My name is ..." all of the class can show you their initial letter and sign this to you if you ask them!

Our letter this week is A and here is one of the ants we made.

Our second week of swimming - here is Jackson ready for the water!

Ready for a safe entry.

We like splashing our feet!

Locke getting up the courage to let go!

Tyler sharing a ring with English so beautifully.

Welcome to Room One, Lockie (first day was on his actual birthday, Thursday).

Yay, we won the 'we care' award as we always try so hard to tidy up after ourselves. Leah was chosen to receive it for the class.

Thanks for being interested in our blog, I hope you enjoyed finding out about our week. Our last swimming session is on Thursday.

Star of the week, Week 2 Feb 2015

Ka Pai, Addison! Addison is our star of the week to reflect her wonderful attitude and kindness to others. She is always the first student to offer to help another in difficulty, whether that is due to a little bump or bruise or a new pupil at school who is unsure of where to go or what to do. Thank you Addison for your super friendship skills, they will serve you well in the future!
