Friday 6 May 2016

Our first week in Term 2, 2016.

Show and tell - Haylie brought a cat which then produced kittens! Very exciting!

Karen enjoyed telling us all about his new shoes especially bought for starting school.

Eddy was proud of his new school bag too!

We went on a walk around the school on our first day back to help the new children get to know where places are and who they can find. We met Mrs Smith and Mrs Little...

...then went to say hello to Mr Herrick.

Kobie was our special helper and she was a super leader.

We have been writing our numbers without any help at all to find out our starting points for numeracy this term

Kaden loved using his board and new pen.

Kayla knows she is missing some numbers and has left space for them up to 10.

Goodness, day one and Haylie can write her numerals up to 16 already!

We have been painting ourselves and talking about thinks we like to do - do come and see these hanging  in our class.

Time for some i-pads.

Emma chose an alphabet puzzle today.

Making things together is a super way to learn co-operation skills.

Karen busy at work.

Ewan is flying with his early morning Early Words programme and can read six high frequency words, can write them and recognise them really fast!

Zane has completed his first writing target, good work young man!

First day at school presentations for Eddy,

Haylie

Kaden

and Naleah, great to have you, guys!

This week we have been learning how to make repeated patterns in maths.

Zane and Ewan had great fun together working out their plan for a pattern.

This is our Giant Discussion book and the children loved being 'teacher' and explaining the patterns they could see.
Sol made a repeating pattern with brushes and hammers.

Our poem which came home in our poetry books this Friday is about Sleep and if you come to the purple corner you an see all our students sleeping! (Just pretend!!)

Dancing to our music and using our new shakers we made.

Kobie has completed her first sticker chart.

Miele came for her first visit and loved the morning with us.

We had a visit from an amazing magician, he kept the whole school enthralled for an hour! His topic was healthy eating.

How this bunny appeared from the box is totally magic, one minute the box was empty, the next, hey presto!

Now we all know about healthy food choices and what we should eat every day.

Discovery time, making friends. New puppet theatre.

Making necklaces to wear for the morning.

Making bridge and spiders.

Digging to the end of the earth.

Sharing time - these students were chosen to share their learning with the others in Pohutukawa and Ngaio classes.

After school on Wednesday I had a visitor!

Sharing time on Thursday - all totally engaged as usual.

We are learning about our teeth and how to keep them healthy, Sol showed us he has already lost a tooth and we made little boxes for our first teeth to be saved in, Mrs Savill took them home to make up on Thursday night and they took ages so Bronwen very kindly finished them on Friday morning. Thanks, Bronwen, I would be lost without your help! They will go home on Monday - Friday the children brought their Mother;s Day cards home for you and would have probably squashed the little boxes!

Oh my goodness me, how tall can we go?

Taller than Mrs Savill even!

On Friday we wore red mufti and had helicopter hair to raise funds for the Westpac Chopper appeal.

Bell has finished her first level of Lexia, good job Bella!!

We have had a great week, two new children join us on Monday. I hope you have a restful weekend.
