Week Three in Room One.

Welcome to our Bog in Room One!
We have had another busy, happy week and hopefully our photos will help you understand some of the things we have been learning and some of the new experiences we have shared.

MUSIC MAKING
Learning how to manipulate percussion instruments correctly, play together when required and keeping quiet at the right time are all key skills for music making and we have been learning the correct names for our instruments too.
Joel on triangle and Max with a tambourine.
Vinny playing the triangle carefully and Carey playing the bells.

Ella brought one of her little puppies into class for us to meet!
 HOCKEY SKILLS
This week and next we are very fortunate to have Craig teaching basic hockey skills to our children. I was completely blown away by their co-ordination - most of the class can use a hockey stick to push their ball with some form of control already after only one half hour session! Well done, team!

Shakana and Jack 'freezing' during 'Creep up Jack'.

 RUNNING SKILLS.
We have also been learning how to run correctly using our arms to pump and help us move faster. Janice Oliver came this week to help us improve our techniques and here you can see some of the children playing 'Rob the nest' with her super little bean bag toys.
Hadlee is speedy!

Mia is loving this so much!
 NUMBER WRITING
We have been learning to recognise and write our numbers and every child recorded the numbers they know how to write already in order that I may plan their next steps.
Kaylee is writing 1,3 and 4.

More about this one later - I cannot move the picture!

ART - we are making prints this week - these are our mirror prints. Whilst some children were making their prints, the others were making spiders - S is our letter this week.

Joel can write his numbers up to 7 and will be working on forming the numbers 2 and 3 the right way around.

Evie and Hadlee making their prints.

FREE TIME
At the beginning of the week we had beautiful weather and all the class were able to go out into the sandpit if they wished. To see them all working so well together was a real treat - everyone respected the other childs' space and looked after each other. max made a wonderful road and nobody trod on it...

Mia made a garden - isn't it lovely?

Xavier was making a castle and Shylah was digging.

Joel worked on the Maths programme on our computer and Carey was watching and learning too.

The girls ran their own little singing and ukulele session in our purple corner...
SPIRIT OF POLYNESIA
On Friday we had a real treat, Bernard came and gave a brilliant show. This was perfect for our culture topic and he sang songs, told stories and wore costumes from many different cultures. he taught Brianna part of his amazing hoop dance and selected a group of children to work with him and his poi.

Jack is on the far right and was amazing!

We now understand some of the Maori moku on his face.

Kaylee can write her own name so well!

Mrs Lawrence was teaching a couple of days this week whilst Mrs Savill carried our New Entrant assessments on some of the children.

This is Mrs Probert. She has started teaching with Mrs Savill and is taking some of the children in the mornings for their group work in Maths, Reading and Writing. Everyone comes together when the lessons are not group oriented and in the afternoons we are all in Room One with Mrs Savill. It is wonderful to have Mrs Probert with us.

More music - Evie and Shylah.
 POETRY
Our poem this week is Sleep:

Sleep creeps up on me,
Slowly in waves.
Waves slowly sweep away
Thoughts of the day.

We have been learning this poem and pretending to sleep - there is a large display on the wall in our room if you would like to view the photographs - they are gorgeous!

This is Janice Oliver form Sport Tasman.
